MarcEdit 7.6.x Download Options
MarcEdit 7.6 has two distinct download options to ensure that users have the options necessary to work within their specific and unique local environments. Please review the options below and select the option that makes the most sense for you and your environment.
Please note, while both of these installation files can be installed by users (without administrative permissions); only the User Only (Self Contained) installation utilizes the new .NET option to precompile and freeze and application to a specific .NET build, allowing all dependencies and system files to be included in the installation. Users installing the Consolidated Installer will need to either install the following dependencies prior to installation or provide an administrative password to install the necessary .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime files if they are not present. Specifically, the following dependencies will be installed when using the Consolidated Installer:
These runtimes enable the application to run on either 64 or 32 bit systems, as well as allow other 32 or 64 bit applications to interact with MarcEdit’s programming components. The dependencies can be installed prior to installing MarcEdit 7.6 from the Microsoft website: Download .NET 6.0 (Linux, macOS, and Windows) (microsoft.com)
System Administrators: Please note, both of these updates have their own individual program and upgrade ids. This means that these versions technical could be installed on the same machine; but it is not recommended. User Only Installation (Self Contained)

You should download this version if:
- You have a 64-bit version of Windows
- You cannot install MarcEdit or any of its dependencies as an administrator
- You are the only user on this computer
- OR You are the only user that will use MarcEdit on this computer
- You want to run MarcEdit in a sandbox
Please note, this version of MarcEdit comes with a couple trade-offs. Specifically:
- The User install will not install or provide access to MarcEdit’s COM objects. This is primarily would be an issue for users that:
- Write VBScripts or applications that interact with MarcEdit’s COM library (MARCEngine75)
- Utilize 3rd-party tools that utilize MarcEdit’s COM library
- The OCLC Connexion Plugin will not work with Connexion 2.6.3 on a 64 bit system, but should work with Connexion 3.0.x on a 64-bit system as OCLC’s software installs the necessary dependencies for 64-bit access.
- Because MarcEdit Freezes specific system files for portability, MarcEdit will only use the Frozen runtime files, regardless of the version installed locally on the system.
This is the recommended version of MarcEdit for users that either work in managed environments and are unable to get their IT departments to install the application or its dependencies or are utilizing the application on their own personal devices and don’t require access to MarcEdit’s programming components to support 3rd-party applications.

Consolidated Installation

You should download this version if:
- Multiple users work on and sign-in on this computer and may use MarcEdit
- You are using using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows
- You utilize 3rd-party tools that work with MarcEdit and need to ensure the MarcEdit COM objects are registered
- Your installation will be managed by your organization.
The Consolidated Installation is the most complete installation package, but also requires the installation of dependency files that may require administrative permissions to complete (see above). Once those dependencies have been installed, the program will:
- Not need administrative permissions to manage the tool if installed in single user mode
- Will need administrative permissions to manage the tool if installed in all users mode
Please note: The Consolidated build is the only version of the application that current supports 32-bit systems.
This is the recommended version of MarcEdit for systems where you will have more that one user signing in and utilizing the application, for users on 32-bit systems, for organizations wanting to manage the application installation via SCCM or other package manager, or for users that require the use of MarcEdit’s COM programming library to support local script development or 3rd-party tools utilizing the MarcEdit COM library.
