Starting in MarcEdit 7.5.x, the application is including the 64 bit MS Access Database Engine (2010) Redistributable library as a dependency that will be automatically installed on request. This dependency is installed any time the following conditions are met:
- A user selects the OCLC Connexion Plugin Feature Component in the Installer
- The 64-bit 2010, 2013, 2016 or Office 365 Access Database Engine isn’t found on the machine
This component is installed silently, so if it fails, the user won’t be notified of this failure until they attempt to load data from a Connexion data file. If that occurs, here are the following steps to resolve:
- If you didn’t select the OCLC Connexion Plugin Feature during the initial install, you can:
- Open the Control Panel, Select the MarcEdit 7.5 and the Change/Modify Option. This will allow you to select the component and install.
- Download the component directly from Microsoft selecting the 64-bit version: Download Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable from Official Microsoft Download Center
- If you did select the option, and the component cannot be found, this means that the installer failed to install. This component requires the .NET Framework 3.5, a framework part of the Windows 10 operating system. However, it can be removed via group policy or local admin policies. Should that be the case, you can attempt to install via one of the updated runtimes:
Please note, due to the way Microsoft packages Office after 2016, only the 2010 and 2013 Runtimes may work when a user has a 32-bit version of Office installed, but needs to also have access to the 64-bit runtime. In cases where any of the above runtimes don’t work — the best option for users with an Office 365 subscription is to uninstall the 32-bit version of Office and re-install using the 64-bit version of the tools. That will resolve the issue.
