MarcEdit 6 known issues

Current known issue with MarcEdit 6 and their fix date.

  • Task List Processing (All Platforms): Tasks with multiple items lose track of the edited file and can, potentially, corrupt the data file.
    Fixed: Aug. 5, 2014
  • Automatic Updater (Mac Platforms): Update window can cause the program to freeze
    Fixed: Aug. 5, 2014
  • Menu Shortcuts (Mac Platform): MarcEdit menus utilize the control key modifier which works on Windows and Linux systems.  Mac systems lack this key, rendering shortcuts unusable.
    Scheduled Fix: TBA
  • Delimited Text Translator (All Platforms): The Edit LDR, Load Template, and AutoGenerate buttons are not responding to clicks.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • MARCCompare (All Platforms): When processing data with improperly formed mnemonic data, the program doesn’t correctly trap the generated format error.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • Edit Field Data (All Platforms): When processing control fields by position, replacement is duplicating data.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • MARC Tools – MARC8 and UTF8 conversion checkboxes (All Platforms): checkboxes will gray out when changing the selection from the function list.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • Task List – Delete Subfield Text:  When creating a task with the delete subfield text option checked, it’s not seen and the subfield code isn’t removed from the data.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • Merge Records Tool (All Platforms) — When processing just the 035$a$z when using the MARC21 records option, not all date is being normalized.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • Classify Tool (All Platforms) — When processing a record without an 008, the date information isn’t being pulled from the 260/4$c if present.
    Fixed: Aug. 15, 2014
  • MarcEditor (All Platforms): Debugging Messagebox shows up when opening a file not in MarcEdit’s mnemonic format (i.e., missing the terminating blank line between records at the end of file.
    Fixed: Sept. 2, 2014
  • Validate URLs (All Platforms) — When running this utility on current versions, the tool will crash.
    Fixed: Sept. 2, 2014
  • Delimited Text Translator (All Platforms) — After completing the process, the program returns to the first panel, rather than closing the utility or showing a finished status.  This doesn’t affect functionality, but is confusing.
    Fixed: Sept. 2, 2014
  • BibFrame Testbed (Mac Platform) — An issue with Saxon under MONO is causing the program to fail when processing XQuery data.
Scheduled Fix: TBA (the fix appears to be to downgrade to a previous version of Saxon — however, I’ll need to ensure that there are not unforeseen problems in doing this).
  • JSON Object Viewer (Windows Platform) — file is missing causing problems.
    Scheduled Fix: Sept. 4, 2014
